Our Story
Corbett & Corbett LLP was founded by Augustus Corbett and his daughter Chloe Corbett, two Black attorneys committed to fighting for justice in Dallas and throughout Texas. Attorney Chloe Corbett served as a prosecutor before joining the firm, giving her an insider’s perspective on how the system works and how to navigate it effectively for our clients.
But our commitment to this work goes beyond legal training. It is personal.
In 2019 after church on a Sunday, our family went to a local theater to watch a movie. A clerk was rude and disrespectful to us. We did what any family would do, we spoke up and asked to speak with a manager. The manager, who was Black, immediately accused us of race baiting rather than addressing the situation. He called the police. What happened next is something no family should ever experience. My daughter Chloe, my son, and I were arrested and spent a night together in jail. Our cases were dropped within days because there was no basis for the arrest. It was racial profiling, plain and simple.
That night in jail changed us. We saw firsthand how people are treated once those cell doors close. We witnessed the dehumanization, the indifference, and the casual cruelty that our arrested clients experience every single day. It deepened our understanding of what our clients go through and it strengthened our resolve to fight harder for every single person who walks through our door.
We did not build this firm to blend in. We built it to fight back. That is why we call ourselves the defiant lawyers. We are defiant in the face of injustice, defiant in the face of powerful insurance companies, defiant in the face of corrupt systems, and defiant in our commitment to our clients and our community.
